Located between the Laurentides and the Mauricie, north of Laval and Montréal, Lanaudière has a population of over 492,000 inhabitants. Terrebonne, Repentigny and Mascouche, the most densely populated cities, are highly urbanized.

Well-known for its fertile farming plains, Lanaudière is in the mildest climatic zone of the province. It is filled with farms and agritourism enterprises in addition to having one of the largest concentrations of sugar bushes in Québec. Gourmets and local product aficionados will gladly roam its agritourism circuits. From Cochon cents façons pork products in Saint-Jacques to the chocolate treats of Chocolaterie Le Cacaoyer in L'Assomption, and the goat kid meat of La Chèvrerie Barbe Bouc in Saint-Damien, there is something for everyone. As for wine connoisseurs, they will enjoy visiting one of the five vineyards in the region, including Vignoble Le Mernois in Saint-Thomas, Vignoble Saint-Gabriel in Saint-Gabriel-de-Brandon, and Vignoble Carone in Lanoraie.

The architectural heritage of Lanaudière consists of several buildings listed among the Québec Cultural Heritage Register. For example, the former Saint-Jean-de-Matha convent, raised around 1896, overlooks the core of this pretty municipality. The Maison Poitras, a French-style house built around 1785, is located in L'Épiphanie nearby the Achigan River. As for the Maison Antoine-Lacombe, a neoclassical style stone residence, it was erected in 1840 in the municipality of Saint-Charles-Borromée.
