Discover Chaudière-Appalaches

Located south of the St. Lawrence River and north of the Appalachians, the Chaudière-Appalaches has a population of about 420,000 inhabitants. Lévis, the most densely populated city and the economic hub of the region, is connected to the Old Capital via the Québec and Pierre-Laporte Bridges, and via a ferry boat.

The outstanding architectural heritage of the Chaudière-Appalaches comprises about 15 churches listed as historic monuments along with five remarkable mills. Erected in 1799, the Moulin du domaine-de-Lotbinière, in Lotbinière, is an imposing stone watermill. The 'Beaumont Mill', named after the municipality where it was built in 1821, is a Canadian style structure sitting over a ravine. Let's not forget the Seigneurie des Aulnaies, a vast estate with a magnificent Regency style manor that dates back to 1853, and the Manoir Joly-De Lotbinière, a sumptuous neoclassical style mansion built in 1851 in Sainte-Croix.

A diversified museum offering conveys the cultural vitality of the region. You can visit the Musée minéralogique et minier de Thetford Mines, the Musée de l'aviation in Sainte-Marie or the Musée maritime du Québec in L'Islet, just to name a few. The cultural capital of the Chaudière-Appalaches, Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, is teeming with art studios, galleries and artistic events, namely the Biennale de sculpture and Les violons d'automne.

Nature enthusiasts will gladly visit Parc national de Frontenac, bordering Lake Saint-Françe;ois (one of the 19 lakes in the region), Parc régional du Massif du Sud in Saint-Philémon, nestled on a 915-meter mountainous area, along with the dozen regional and municipal parks in the Chaudière-Appalaches.

From the warm atmosphere of La Beauce to the eye-catching panoramas of Charlevoix, everyone will find a permanent home or second residence that measures up to their dreams.
