Our pets are part of the family and play a meaningful role in our home life, even if they don't always make life easy for us. If you're looking to organize your home, here are some ideas about how you can integrate and better manage your home to make yours and their lives easier.
Pet toys and supplies are often too vibrant or colourful for my taste. I much prefer items that blend in better with the neutral tones in our home. That's why I always store pet toys in baskets. One of the biggest design trends right now is wicker baskets—which means that, fortunately, stores are replete with different options, so finding one for your space won't be an issue. Choose the basket you like best, bring it home, and put your little one's toys in it to achieve a sleek look all over the home. In addition to being practical, wicker baskets look great placed around the living room.
Sometimes, pet hair can get everywhere, and so it's your right to keep pets out of certain rooms if you'd like. Train them to steer clear of some rooms in the home to ensure they're happy and help make cleaning up after them much, much more manageable.
Another little trick that we might not always think about—but that can make life a little easier—is to buy removable cushions and couches. Easy-to-clean surfaces and textiles are an ultra-convenient way to avoid hair build-up or wipe away accidents. Consider investing in a rug cleaner or shampoo, a fantastic investment for rugs or non-removable textiles.
Building a feeding station exclusively for your pet is a beautiful gift to give them and will fit in well with your home. A few pieces of wood, some assembly, and cute, fetching bowls with a splash of paint will help define the space, making it a practical solution and a far more creative option than what you can buy in a store!
Renovating the kitchen or thinking about it? Consider incorporating a food and drinking station directly into the kitchen cabinets, whether it's a drawer inserted along the bottom of your cabinets that can be pulled out at mealtime or a fixed water tap, small additions that will make a world of difference. Consider reserving a large drawer that can hold a bin for food that makes everyday life so much easier. Kitchen designers always have fun incorporating these types of elements into kitchen plans. Take it from a pro!
The best solution is to dedicate a room in the house to your pet. I mean that when a room frees up, you can create one to install a washing station for your pet with a shower. For example, provide storage for your pet accessories and products. You can also get creative by integrating (and hiding) the litter box in a custom-made piece of furniture. If you've got an incredibly fluffy friend, install a counter at their height to facilitate grooming. Having a pet-focused room is, of course, every dog or cat owner's dream. If it's just not a reality given your space, this pet space can also be integrated into a laundry room or a multi-purpose room, if your home allows.
These are just some little tricks that will make life with pets that much easier for pets and pet parents! After all, we love them, so why shouldn't we spoil them a little—or a lot.
