Window treatments are the finishing touch that makes all the difference in a room. There are several options available, depending on your style and budget. Whether you're looking to transform a room or put the finishing touch on it, window dressings are a must. Shutter blinds or shades
Sometimes known as Venetian blinds, shutter windows have been having a moment for quite some time. These styles of window treatments complement a home’s architecture and can even increase its value. Built with wooden slats that can be adjusted to allow air to circulate and let light in, these are ideal for south-facing rooms, especially in the summer. On winter evenings, they partition the windows and provide insulation from cold air. For a space requiring privacy (breakfast nook, bathroom, etc.), café-style shutter windows can be used only on the bottom of the window, leaving the top air to let the sun's beaming rays pour in.
Sheer curtains
My preferred choice of window dressing is a sheer option. Transparent and all-encompassing, the beauty of sheer window dressing softens the space. Positioning these types of curtains high up creates the illusion of making a small window look even larger. The movement will add warmth to your space. The fun thing is that there are several colours and fabrics to choose from.
Blackout roller shades
Simple and minimalist, a blackout roller shade is an easy alternative to dressing your windows with opaque curtains, which can weigh a room down. Pairing this type of window dressing with a sheer curtain creates a soft, diffused light and, at nighttime, blocks out any light creeping in to create intimacy. This option is the ideal solution for window coverings in a bedroom for a restful sleep and a gentle awakening.
Roman blinds
A timeless, classic and elegant choice, Roman blinds are a classic for a reason. These delicately dress a window, while their pleated detail adds texture. They can screen or block light depending on a room's needs and fabric choice.
Motorized blinds and shades
Motorized window shades are an option in instances where the window is less accessible — like if it’s blocked by furniture, in an area with high ceilings, or for skylights. This is also a solution for seniors or people living with reduced mobility. For optimal comfort, these are the way to go.
Whether done by professionals or a DIY project, window treatments are the finishing touch and a great accessory to any room.
