Decorating for the Holidays

Oh yes, it smells like Christmas in here!

This year, as we go back into lockdown, I think I’m not the only one who wants to hang up the Christmas decorations a little early. With the Holidays being a little different this year, I think it’s important now more than ever to make our home warm and comforting, while making room for simplicity and homemade decorations.

It’s time for Christmas

If you know me a little or if you follow me on Instagram, you probably know that I love earthy colours so our Christmas decorations are mostly gold, silver, and made out of wood. Even if there isn’t a lot of red, trust me, it can still be very Christmassy.

The entrance made simple

For the foyer, I went with a homemade Advent calendar this year. It’s really easy and it adds a touch of originality. I find it both aesthetically pleasing and interesting, since we can put whatever we want inside it. I was heavily inspired by Emilie from @brookeandpeony.

Also in the spirit of creating homemade decorations, I assembled for the very first time my own Christmas wreath made of eucalyptus, tea tree leaves, and rosehip berries.

The dining room

The dining room is usually the main room during the holiday season but, as we all know, it’ll be different this year. Although we might not be able to host our loved ones here, I still set up my table to warm the space, with a linen tablecloth and a eucalyptus garland.

The Christmas tree

I literally LOVE decorating the tree. And I’m a perfectionist, so I like when the ornaments are well-balanced. Each year, I add ornaments that are personalized or that have special meaning to us. Like this one that says “first House” or those wooden ones for Céleste’s first Christmas.

The living room

In the living room, we have a shelf that allows me to decorate according to the seasons. For Christmas, I add a few golden accents, like this deer, for example. It’s always lovely to light some candles with a Christmas scent. On the fireplace, I always hang Christmas stockings with reindeer-shaped hooks.

So there you have it! This is how I decorate the inside of our home for the Holidays. I still believe that everything is in the small details. Now, we are (almost) ready for our very first Christmas all three of us together!

From our family to yours, I wish you a holiday season filled with kindness and comfort, and a new year that brings us closer to the simple things in life.
