Tidy home, tidy mind!

We often underestimate just how much impact an organized home and an interior that reflects who we really are can have on our wellbeing. Feeling good in your home is a sense of comfort and a state of mind that can be easily attained by adopting just a few organizational habits. Here are three simple tips on how to do just that!

Put things away, right away!

Don’t let papers (invoices, notes, prescriptions, notices, etc.) pile up . . . in your handbag, on your kitchen counter, or bedside table. Instead, file them away as soon you’re done with them. If you can’t put them away immediately, at least keep them all together (like in a small bin, for example). That way, as soon as you have the time, you can organize everything in a heartbeat! The same thing goes for objects that can easily accumulate in the entrance, garage, or even the kitchen counter. Putting things away, right away, is the best way to stay organized and avoid feeling overwhelmed when things get out of control.

Shrink your space

Stop thinking that you would be happier if only your office were bigger, or your home more spacious. Chances are, you would just end up with more clutter! This phenomenon can be summed up in two words: Douglas’ Law. Basically, the more space you have, the less tidying and organizing you tend to do. As a result, the more clutter that surrounds you, the more time you spend looking for things around your house. The bigger your house is, the higher the chances of it being cluttered. It’s an endless cycle. And remember: it’s always best to finish one task before moving on to another one.

Feel good in your home

It’s important that your home’s interior reflects your personality and lifestyle. And that has nothing to do with having a sprawling mansion or limitless budget. The idea is to avoid cluttering your home with things that no longer suit you. Keep the essential furniture and objects that you still use and get rid of anything else. Infuse your home with a style you love, that way you’ll always feel good stepping into any of your rooms. It doesn’t have to cost a fortune, especially if you’re willing to transform certain things yourself. For example, if the colour of your bathroom vanity is feeling a little out-dated, just paint it (even the countertop can be painted!) and change the handles. Creating a home you feel good in isn’t just a question of money, but rather a question of layout and good taste.

Remember that your home is your refuge; it’s where you get to spend most of your time, share precious moments with family, and recharge your batteries, so it’s important that the moment you step foot inside you feel a sense of wellbeing and pride.
