Whether you like them a little, a lot, or not at all, you’re bound to start noticing these trends in shops, magazines, and on Pinterest! The idea is obviously not to change everything, but sometimes, adding or tweaking a few decorative elements can make our home interiors evolve. Here are three completely different styles that all have two things in common: elegance and warmth!
1. The MAXIMALIST style
Style description:
The polar opposite of a minimalist, a maximalist focuses on self-expression in decoration: abundance, collections, art, and all objects that have a history. Filled with layered patterns, objects, and bubbly colours, the basic premise is “more is better.”
This style is often found in commercial places such as trendy restaurants and other cool commercial places. As we love “instagrammable” spots, this style is sure to please more than a few with the unusual and eclectic effect it procures.
How to adopt it (without changing everything)? Who is it for?
Perfect for those who like to feel surrounded by objects, to be in a hushed and busy atmosphere, or those who like to chill in flea markets/second-hand shops. You can add open storage to display beautiful objects, you can create art gallery walls with paintings, mirrors, frames. You can mix patterns and colours.
Add a patterned rug, colourful throw pillows, and beautiful items on a cute tray. You can also paint an old piece of furniture with a vibrant colour to energize the décor and help incorporate this trend into your home.
Trending colours:
The Maximalist palette is bold. There are warm tones of coral, terracotta, chocolate brown, yellows, leaf green, deep blue, and linen white. Adding colour can be in many forms: a sofa, accent chair, area rug, framed pictures, wallpaper, accent wall, or even an entire room.
2. The MODERN ORGANIC style
Style description:
In the Modern Organic style, curves are the star of the show! Think framed images with curved lines, black and white images, or prints with very present patterns. Furniture with rounded lines, such as tables, chair armrests, vases, and rather rounded lighting. The addition of plants, as well as raw materials such as linen and wood, provides an organic touch, while the choice of furniture and framing lends a modern feel to this style.
How to adopt it?
If you like this style and are planning to buy new furniture, it’ll be very easy to find, as the stores are overflowing this year with decorative items and furniture directly related to this trend. You'll notice round dining tables, living room tables, or side tables. Armchairs, furniture, and even headboards with rounded corners. Organic because everything is round and modern, because the art is modern and often in black and white, rounded lights such as the famous mushroom lamp, pottery vases, and architectural arches. Adding plants and greenery is also a must.
Trending colours
The colours that define this trend are neutral tones of greige, beige, blond wood, rust, white, and black. Natural materials such as linen are also in the spotlight. This style dares to mix materials, but the look remains rather tone-on-tone. The prints and images in the frames are often black, white, and beige and the very organic patterns are usually quite large.
3. The ENGLISH COUNTRY style
Style description
It's the classic English style but adapted to today’s trends. It's a bit like the farmhouse style, but evolved. Shiplap is replaced with coffered walls, mouldings, and classic and elegant architectural details. Other typical elements include black and white checkerboard flooring (especially for an entrance or powder room), dark wood furniture and woodwork, frames with country scenes, brass objects and lamps, and rugs with classic patterns. Patterned wallpaper is also present in these warm and comforting interiors.
Trending colours
The English Country style often features interiors with soft colours such as sage green, teal, cream, greige, café au lait, and "nude" tones. If you prefer a style with more character, shades of olive green, blue-grey, caramel, and even burgundy can all add a touch of elegance to your home. And after several years of blond and natural-coloured wood, get ready for a return to darker woods, both when it comes to furniture and woodwork.
What’s out in 2024?
Here’s a quick overview of the trends we’re getting ready to say good-bye to:
- Sliding barn doors, barn wood, and anything else with an industrial look. It's time to move on.
- Kitchens that are all white, sterile, and overly “clinical.” White is getting replaced by very pale greige for cabinets and warmed by light or dark wood inserts that create a much softer and soothing harmony for our eyes.
- Grey is now giving way to warmer colours such as greige which is actually a beautiful mix between grey and beige. Beige is making a comeback this year!
- Frames and all other decorations with quotes (cushions, frames, glasses, candles, etc....I think such items have had their time in the spotlight ;-) )
In conclusion, these are 3 cozy trends that I like and feel need to be adopted so that we can once again enliven the souls of our homes (whether ancestral or modern). Which style do you like best?
