The Mauricie region is located halfway between Montreal and Quebec City. It is a great place to raise a family and the real estate there is affordable. Would you like to learn more about its numerous attractions? Read on!

A City Rich in Culture

Trois-Rivières, Mauricie’s most well-known city, is considered the region’s cultural capital. It is the second oldest city in Canada and the second francophone city to have been founded in North America.

Trois-Rivières’s downtown, by the Saint-Lawrence River, has something for everyone. There are festivals, like the Festival international DANSEncore, the FestiVoix and the Festival international de la Poésie. You can grab a bite to eat in one of the many restaurants or have a cocktail in one of the city centre’s bars or cafes. Its concerts halls, museums, and galleries can’t fail to please art lovers for whom a rich cultural life is essential. For example, the Musée des Ursulines, the Cogeco Amphitheatre and the Musée Pop, with its thematic and interactive exhibits, are not to be missed by both residents and visitors to the region. You’ll need more than one day to see all the sights in Trois-Rivières, which is why buying a family home or cottage there is such a great idea!

Honouring History

Heritage is likewise a major draw for the region. Visitors can explore the Old Prison of Trois-Rivières, the Forges-du-Saint-Maurice national historic site or the Boréalis museum, which focuses on the history of pulp and paper production. Also, the impressive Cité de l’énergie in Shawinigan is not to be missed. For its part, the historic neighbourhood of Vieux-Trois-Rivière is full of interesting architecture to discover. Interpretative panels explaining this region’s history have been installed throughout. Learn while you stroll about, enjoying the fresh air and exercise!

Natural and Sports Attractions

Sports and nature enthusiasts will fall in love with the Mauricie region. It holds several lakes and rivers. Hiking, horse riding, canoeing, kayaking, cycling, and snowshoeing are just some of the many activities one can practise there. And avid hunting and fishing fans won’t feel left out: there are more than 75 outfitters across the territory.

You can revel in a nature walk in the La Mauricie National Park or travel the King’s Road to visit the region’s south all along the Saint-Lawrence River and take in its numerous attractions. Those interested in the area’s north can follow the Route des rivières along the Saint-Maurice River and admire its beautiful landscapes.

Affordable Real Estate

Another point in the Mauricie region’s favour is its accessible real estate market. The residences there are in fact some of Quebec’s most reasonably priced. By choosing a home in Shawinigan or Trois-Rivières, you will finally be able to afford all those little upgrades you would otherwise have had to go without if buying in a metropolitan area. Perfect for first-time buyers!

As you can see, whether you want to give your family the best environment possible while still being near all services, to live in harmony with nature, to easily practise your favourite outdoor sports, or to be able to immerse yourself in culture and history, Mauricie and Trois-Rivières cannot fail to satisfy!
