In fact, following a Supreme Court decision reached in the early 2000s, along with an administrative position revised by Revenue Canada, cash damming allows incorporated self-employed people to use the gross revenues from their business to pay down their personal mortgage more quickly and consequently finance 100% of their operating expenses. In short, non-deductible interest (a mortgage) is gradually converted into deductible interest (a loan for business purposes). Similarly, cash damming allows an employee or self-employed person who owns or purchases an income property to convert non-deductible interest from his mortgage on his home into deductible interest.
